School Records Request

Public law 93-380, regarding the “Release of School Records” has been modified by SB 182, Article 5, and Privacy of Public Records, 10947, which reads:

 

A school district is not authorized to permit access to pupil’s records to any person without parental consent or under judicial order except that:

  1. Access shall be permitted to the following: Officials and employees of other public schools or school systems including local, county, or state correctional facilities where educational programs leading to high school graduation are provided.  Where the pupil intends to or is directed to enroll, subject to the rights of the parents as provided in Section 10939.
  • Educational Assessment (protocols and reports)      
  • Educational Placement Information
  • Speech and Language Assessment Individual
  • Education Plan (IEP)
  • Occupational/Physical Therapy Evaluations
  • Vocational Assessment
  • Adaptive Physical Education/Motor Evaluation
  • Audiologist Assessment
  • Physiological – Psychiatric Reports
  • Medical Information
  • School Transcript of Past Academic Records
  • Grades earned during the current year
  • Health Record
  • Standardized Test Scores
  • Withdraw Grades
  • Birth Certificate & Social Security Card
  • Other: State & Local Test Scores (i.e., EOC, PARCC, SBA, PSAT, etc.)

 

 

Note: It is not necessary for parents to sign a release form when records are being passed from public school to public school.  (Federal law 99.31) “No parent’s signature required for educational records sent to another educational agency”.
